Sericho was officially classified in 2017 after over 2,800 kg of material was recovered near Habaswein, Kenya, though local herders had known of the stones for decades. It is composed of gem-quality olivine (peridot) crystals embedded in a metallic matrix of iron and nickel, with some slices showing up to 70% olivine by volume.
