Icy Obsidian is a natural variety of Obsidian, a translucent to semi-translucent type of volcanic glass with pale grey, smoky, or icy-white tones. Also called Ice Obsidian, Smoky Obsidian, or Black Lace Obsidian, our Obsidian chip has gorgeous transparency and is believed to be a potent energy for self-reflection, journaling or shadow work. Our chips come in a small glass vial with cork stopper, 5CMH.

Icy Obsidian forms when silica-rich lava cools rapidly on the Earth’s surface, trapping volcanic gases and mineral flow in its glassy matrix. Unlike typical black obsidian, trace elements and inclusions lend this variety its unique pale, smoky translucence. Believed to be a crystal of stillness and clarity, Icy Obsidian is associated with calm reflection, shadow work, emotional processing, and gentle grounding.
