CITRINE
Citrine, a vibrant yellow-to-orange variety of Quartz, owes its color to iron impurities within the crystal structure. In nature, true Citrine forms over millions of years through geological processes: Amethyst or Smoky Quartz is slowly heated deep within the Earth's crust, oxidizing the iron to produce subtle, pale golden hues. This natural formation is rare, making authentic untreated citrine a collector's gem. As a faster alternative, most commercial Citrine is created through heat treatment—typically by baking Amethyst (purple quartz) or Smoky Quartz at 800–900°F (427–482°C) in controlled lab conditions. This mimics the Earth's transformative heat, accelerating the color change in mere hours or days to yield deeper, more uniform orange or reddish tones. While visually striking and energetically potent, heat-treated Citrine often shows telltale signs like a white base (from its amethyst origins) or clustered color distribution. Both forms are thought to carry Citrine's metaphysical essence of abundance and clarity, but natural specimens are thought to emphasize ancient Earth wisdom, while treated ones offer accessible, amplified solar energy.
