Formed from silicon dioxide, Black Agate is a variety Chalcedony, characterised by black, white and blue coloured banding - formed when layers of agate deposits develop on top of each other. These bandings and veins are created from impurities within the composition of groundwater. Black Agate belongs to the quartz family, and has a trigonal crystal system of growth. Black Agate is believed to have potent protective energy and is often used for grounding and cleansing. It is also thought to activate self esteem and strength, lessen fears, stress and anxiety.
