Like all Iolite, it is a magnesium aluminum silicate known for strong pleochroism, shifting between violet‑blue, grey, and honey tones depending on light angle. The red inclusions create areas of internal flash and fine glittery reflection across the surface, adding visual texture to the classic Water Sapphire look historically used by Viking navigators to detect sunlight through cloud cover.
