Amethyst is a variety of Quartz (SiO₂), coloured purple by trace amounts of iron and natural irradiation. It crystallises in the hexagonal system, often forming six‑sided prismatic crystals or drusy clusters within geodes. Colour ranges from pale lilac to deep violet depending on concentration of iron and locality. Amethyst is believed to activate spiritual awareness, open intuition, and enhance psychic ability.
